Procedure for Applying for Marriage Certificate
- The marriage certificate can be applied for in person or online.
- Make an appointment only after you have gathered all the necessary documents or photographs.
- You can easily schedule this appointment online or by visiting your nearest court.
Applying for Appointment Online

- Click ‘Make Appointment with DM’ on the website and register for an account.
- Select your District from the list and continue filling out the form
- Enter the husband’s details and select ‘Registration of Marriage Certificate as the document type required
- Fill in all information on Marriage Certificate Form 6A and select the appointment date.
- Click on the ‘Submit Application button at the bottom of the page.
- You would then obtain an acknowledgment page with confirmation of reservation, date & time slot selected, and intendant.
- There will be a link to download a filled form that you must print out.
- Bring printed Acknowledgement along with original documents mentioned below this instruction sheet to avail service on the day of the appointment.

Fee for Marriage Registration Certificate in Delhi
The fee for a marriage certificate in Delhi is:
- Rs. 100 in the event of the Hindu Marriage Act
- Rs.150 in the event of the Special Marriage Act
You must pay the fees to the cashier of the District, and a receipt should be attached to the application form.
Marriage under the Hindu Marriage Act
On the day you apply for a marriage certificate under the Hindu Marriage Act, all the documents related to both parties will be verified on the date of application, and a certain day is fixed for registration. On that day, both parties must come with witnesses who attended their marriage ceremony to complete the formalities.
Marriage under the Special Marriage Act
Both the Groom and Bride must be present after submitting their documents to issue a public notice inviting objections if any. A copy of said wedding notice will be displayed in the office, with another copy sent by registered post to both parties at the address they provided. Registration may proceed if there are no objections thirty days after the notice date. On that day, both parties and three witnesses must be present for registration purposes.
Marriage Registration – Witness Requirement

A Witness can be anyone who is the holder of an Aadhaar card or PAN card or other acceptable proof as per the list of documents above. Online Registration for Court Marriage in Delhi
The court marriage process in Delhi can now be completed online, thanks to the e-District Delhi portal. Couples can now fill out the Notice of Intention to Marry form and submit it electronically, as well as pay the registration fee online. - The application form must be duly filled out and signed by both the bride and groom.
- Receipt of the fee of Rs.15/- which is deposited with cashier of District
- Age-proof of both parties
- Evidence of staying in Delhi for more than 30 days
- Separate affidavits from bride and groom giving:
- Date of birth.
- Current marital status
- Confirmation that none of the parties are related to each other
- A Gazetted Officer attested to two Passport size photographs of both parties.
- Copy of divorce order/decree as well as a death certificate for the spouse in the event of a divorcee, and widow’s/widower’s death certificate in the case of a widow or widower
- Only marriages that comply with this act can be registered in the office where the bride or groom resides.
Tatkal’ Marriage Certificate:
The court marriage procedure in India is quite simple. It can be done within 24 hours of filing the application at the court. The court issues a ‘Tatkal’ Marriage Certificate on the same day. This type of court marriage is suitable for those who do not have time to wait for the mandatory 15 days notice period.

How Would We Know Where Will We Register Our Marriage?
The marriage officiant will give you a form to fill out with all your personal information and the details of your marriage. Once you have completed the form, you need to submit it to the marriage officer of the district in which any one of the parties to the marriage has resided for at least 30 days immediately preceding the date on which such notice is given.
After receiving the completed form, the marriage officer will publish a notice of your marriage in a conspicuous place in their office. The notice will contain all the information about your marriage, such as your name, address, occupation, age, marital status, etc. The notice will also mention the date, time and place of your marriage registration.
Any person who has any objection to your marriage can file an objection within 30 days of the publication of the notice. If no objection is received, the marriage officer will register your marriage and issue a marriage certificate.
The marriage registration certificate is documentary proof of your marriage. The Registrar of Marriages issues it. It contains the name, date of birth, place of birth, marital status, and other details of the husband and wife.
