Who Can Apply?

• Couples in Jharkhand who wish to obtain a marriage certificate must be permanent residents of India.

• Both the groom and bride must be at least 18 years old.

Registering for marriage

The party must apply to the office of the relevant Registrar, regardless of where the wedding took place or where the spouses had resided for at least six months before the ceremony. The Registering Officer may register any one of the following places under their jurisdiction:

• The home of the groom.
• The bride’s home.
• Solemnization venue.

In India, marriage registration can be performed under either the Special Marriage Act or Hindu Marriage Act. The Special Marriage Act applies to all citizens of India regardless of their religion, while the Hindu Marriage Act only applies to Hindus.
